Hoddy

Owner
Hoddy originally discovered Bar Method in 2003 during law school in San Francisco, her hometown. Hoddy fell in love with the technique and loved that it reshaped her body. She moved to the Midwest with her husband and three children in 2011 and opened two studios in the Kansas City Metro Area within a year and a half. Hoddy lost her battle with lymphoma in December, but her light will continue to shine throughout the Bar Method Community. We are all so blessed by her friendship and the opportunity to carry on her legacy.

Lizzy Rudd, Kansas City native, grew up dancing at Miller-Marley and furthered her career as a professional ballerina with the Fresno Ballet. She currently lives in Kansas City with husband Peter, and her two kids, Trace and Reagan. She started her Bar Method career four years ago teaching and took the role of Director of Operations for the past two years. She loves being a part of Bar Method Kansas City, and grateful to be operating the studios in honor of Hoddy.

Elizabeth is a Kansas City native and fell in love with The Bar Method two years ago, thanks to Hoddy’s effervescent personality and super impressive skills of persuasion. Never feeling like much of an athlete before, Hoddy and her team quickly began to unlock the strength that she didn’t even know she had within her. Her favorite part of The Bar Method and its community is its steadfast ability to challenge and empower everyone that walks through its doors. Elizabeth has a background in the arts and received her MM from Northwestern University and later found her way into lifestyle photography. Now, she enjoys cooking and playing games at home with her husband of ten years Joel, their sweet daughters Annie and Grace and their scrappy little mutt of a pup, Mosely.

Favorite Exercise: Diagonal Seat with the Ball

Erin is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, but has called Kansas City home for the past twenty years. Erin always loved dance growing up and eventually became a graduate of University of Missouri Kansas City with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in ballet and dance performance. With that love of dance came a passion for fitness, and after the birth of her second child, Erin found Bar Method and began to experience its benefits and was instantly hooked. Each class renewed her passion for fitness and helping others find that same passion. When she is not teaching Bar she is raising her two kids and coaching the St. James Academy Varsity Dance team.

Favorite Exercise: Leg Lifts and Arabesque

Gretchen

Gretchen

Instructor
Gretchen is a Kansas City native who began taking Bar Method classes shortly after the West Plaza studio opened. She has a passion for dance, music, health and wellness. She used to teach hip-hop classes and once was a cheerleader for the T-Bones baseball team. She has a degree in Elementary Education and currently work for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) LEGO Robotics organization. When she’s not working she enjoys traveling, eating good food, and spending time with her husband and son. She is excited to be joining the staff of Bar Method and being a more integral part of the community of strong, smart, and beautiful souls.

Favorite Exercise - Back Dancing. She loves how many options there are to lift your seat!

Janette

Janette

Instructor
Janette took her first Bar Method class in early 2012 and has been a huge fan of the method ever since. She likes The Bar Method so much, that she became a certified instructor in early 2015 and has had a blast teaching classes ever since. In her spare time, Janette enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children along with improving her skills as a photographer (although, her children are tired of getting their picture taken).

Instructor
Karen is from Kansas City and has always lead an active, healthy lifestyle. With a background in gymnastics, diving and cheerleading, posture and body alignment are one of her strengths. She took her first Bar Method class in 2013. She was hooked. Bar Method’s focus on posture and core strength is her ideal workout for the long term. She is excited to balance teaching with raising her four daughters.

Kate was born and raised in Kansas City, and, while she always tried to be healthy, it wasn’t until she joined Bar Method during her pregnancy that she finally found the perfect exercise for her. She loved how the low impact structure allowed her to continue to take class throughout her entire pregnancy and continues to challenge her every day after. When not at Bar, you can find her running after her little ball of energy, Evelyn.
Favorite exercise: Even though she’s gluten free, Kate loves pretzel.
Katie

Katie

Instructor
Katie, a Kansas City native, studied musical theatre performance at Ithaca College and appears locally around the KC metro. She first discovered The Bar Method almost immediately after postponing her move to pursue performance in NYC. Since then it has completely transformed her mind and body. Katie has suffered from back issues due to a dancing injury, and The Bar Method has been the first workout that has kept her back healthy as can be! Katie was certified in June of 2015 and could not be more grateful for the opportunity! She gives enormous thanks to Hoddy and the entire Bar Method Team.

Laura

Laura

Instructor
Laura, a Kansas City native, grew up studying dance and was hooked on Bar Method after her first class. Besides teaching and taking Bar classes, Laura’s loves include her man, her family, her sweet cuddle-bug dog, and wine. Laura is a full-time engineer with degrees in chemical engineering and journalism. Laura hopes to spread the Bar Method love to all of her clients.

Lauren, a KC native, took her first bar class in 2013 and instantly fell in love. She grew up an athlete as a child but her free spirit lead her to more outdoor adventures. Bar Method found her at a time when she needed to refocus her passion of living a healthy lifestyle. Lauren credits the method for changing her mind, body and spirit in so many positive ways. When she isn’t at bar you can find her behind the camera at a photo shoot, out on an adventure, listening to her beloved reggae tunes or sitting by a campfire with her husband and doggie! Lauren especially thanks Hoddy for pushing her to become a "better me!"

Sara is a Kansas City native and a former Chiefs Cheerleader. She’s thrilled to be a part of the Bar Method team and loves being involved in her community. She hopes to impact and inspire the clients the same way her clients inspire her as they strive to become stronger mentally and physically, creating a healthier, happier community one inch at a time.

Sarah relocated from Chicago back to her hometown of Kansas City in 2014. She took her first Bar Method class in Chicago over four years ago and was hooked instantly. Soon after taking class 5-6 times a week and seeing results in her body, she auditioned to become an instructor and has now been teaching for three years. She joins the Kansas City team with experience as the studio director of Chicago’s Gold Coast location where she has led the team of instructors and staff since the studio opened in January 2013. Prior to Bar Method, she worked in commercial real estate where she leased properties throughout Chicago.

Shannon

Shannon

Shannon is a North Carolina girl who landed in Kansas City by way of her career. She began shakin’ at The Bar Method in June of 2015 and became a certified instructor nearly 2 years later in March, 2016. When not at Bar, Shannon works full time in sales. She enjoys the outdoors by paddling, biking and running. She enjoys traveling and good food and drink!
Favorite Exercise : Turned out Diagonal -- the AH HA! moment when you feel “the catch in the side pocket of your seat” and the residual effects a day later.
Tonya

Tonya

Born and raised in Southern California, Tonya has been committed to health, wellness and competitive sports since she was 7. Because there is rarely a rainy day in So Cal, she had the opportunity to train competitively for fast pitch softball year-round in high school and college at UC, Santa Barbara. Eight years ago, from years of high impact activity and the overuse of her joints, she was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. In 2011, Tonya discovered The Bar Method burn and began to rehabilitate her spine. She fell in love with the precision and safety of the method, and became an instructor. Most of all, she loves instilling passion in her Bar Method clients by helping them achieve their personal health and wellness goals. Tonya, her husband, Matt, and their 3 boys recently relocated from San Diego to Kansas City and are excited about their adventure in the Midwest.
